Three Generation of Trading in Arts and Antiques.
Resume: For more than sixty years, the Gottschalch family has sold antiques from their beautiful, 18th century neo-classical house on Lęderstręde in downtown Copenhagen, Denmark. Abroad and at home, Gottschalch Antiques is known to collectors, museums and connoisseurs as a premier antique dealer.

In 1955, Erik Gottschalch purchased the building on Lęderstręde 13, where the shop was located. The following year, a millinery shop located adjacent to Gottschalch Antiques (run by his mother, Erna Gottschalch) became vacant, and Erik began to operate his own shop in this space. Mrs. Gottschalch and her son were now partners and competitors!
Erna Gottschalch died in 1957, and Erik merged the two businesses and expanded into what are today the two story showrooms of Gottschalch Antiques. Erik Gottschalch moved into the building with his wife Lissen and two children as the apartments became vacant above the shop.

Over the years, Erik Gottschalch maintained a strong connection to the Danish Art and Antiques Dealers Association; participating in the annual high-profile winter antiques show. Between 1957 and 1999, Erik continued to grow the business into the well known and respected shop it is today.
In 1970, Christian Gottschalch was born to Lissen and Erik and was raised amidst beautiful and high-quality antiques. Christian was educated in the Copenhagen Business School, and decided to spread his wings to NY before returning to Denmark in 1999 to join his father in the family antique business. For three years, Christian worked with Erik to gain experience, and in 2003, Christian joined his father as a joint owner and partner.
The partnership is complementary. Erik brings years of experience and antiques expertise, and Christian offers valuable knowledge of modern marketing and communications, and has spent considerable time expanding the reach of Gottschalch Antiques globally. Through all of this, father and son have maintained and strengthened the traditions of the industry.
In 2001, Erik Gottschalch was honoured with the Ole Haslund“s Art Funds award for his work over many years in furthering the knowledge of seventeenth and eighteenth century artistry.
